It happened at least one hundred and twenty million years ago – or so credible scientists reckoned. A stone slate was discovered embedded in rock with hieroglyphics. No one knew what the hieroglyphics meant until a “twin” slate was discovered nearby that had drawings explaining each symbol. It was mind boggling. Aliens from another planet had visited the earth long before human beings even existed, and they had left a message. Did they think dinosaurs could read it? Did they know some secret of evolutionary theory that would lead to the inevitable appearance of intelligent life? The deciphered slate was interesting enough. It was plans of how to make a telescope. It was quite different from what anyone on earth had ever seen. It was created and no one really knew what to do with it. Then some silly inquisitive child asked if the scratch marks on the slate could have been made by dinosaurs? Oh my goodness! It was a map clearly pointing to a particular area in the night sky. The clever scientists, with one hundred and twenty million years of stars moving around, worked out where things were back then and where they would be today. The telescope was pointed in that direction. A planet was spied as clear as a bell. The telescope didn’t seem to work in any other direction. For all the vast distance you could almost see individual blades of grass. But there was no grass; just a dead, burnt-out, lifeless planet. Back to Index Next Story Previous Story |
