3259. A favourite novel

In the quiet corner of the library, Dermot slipped the worn murder-romance behind a row of dusty encyclopaedias. He hoped no one would discover the story that had stolen his heart. He had tried to buy the novel but got told it was out of print. There was only one thing to do and that was to steal it. Until he could work out how best to get the book out of the library without being issued it was (hopefully) safely hidden.

Dermot had been obsessed with “Get That Finger Off That Trigger” by Tabatha Twistie since he first read it several years ago. It was a murder mystery and a romance all in one. The plot was extraordinary, inasmuch as the main character was never caught because of his cunning plan. The murder was complex but untraceable.

The murder in the novel was gruesome and bloody. The main character’s girlfriend had left him and she was about to pay the price. But it was so well written that it was quite believable even though the pages were riddled with gaudy blood.

Having his own copy was Dermot’s fixation. Besides, his girlfriend had just left him and he needed a manual.
