Evelyn: Welcome Lily! I’m so glad you were able to accept my luncheon invitation. Come in! I hope you like corn chowder.

Lily: Not if I can help it. Do you have anything else?

Evelyn: Well I’ve got some leftover dinner from last night. Just some peas and mashed potato with some microwaveable leftover chicken.

Lily: Goodness, I can’t see myself having such a heavy meal in the middle of the day. I’d fall asleep.

Evelyn: There’s some ham if you’d prefer that.

Lily: To be honest I had a slice of ham for my dinner last night. They say variety is the spice of life. Anything else?

Evelyn: There’s always water.

Lily: Water? Have you seen the amount of lethal plastic that has managed to creep into bottled water. It’s frightening. Water? Goodness me, no.

Evelyn: I’m afraid I have nothing else on hand.

Lily: I’ll be going then. I’ll pick up something on the way home.

Evelyn: Yes. Thank you for coming. Do come again.

Lily left. Evelyn poured herself a gin and tonic and opened a large box of imported assorted chocolates. The cooked-to-perfection corn chowder could wait.
